How To: potty train twins

Potty Training twins-- honestly the concept sounded terrifying to me before I did it. Potty Training twins is not very different from potty training a single-- except, well, there’s two.

So, how does one potty train twins?

Begin potty training them both at the same time using the approach that is in the book, “Oh Crap! Potty Training”.

You will want another grown-up on hand for at least block one. It is inevitable that as soon as one needs to go, the other immediately will, too.

Therefore...you will also want two potties, either in total or two on each floor of your house. It doesn’t matter where they’re kept, as long as they're in view and the child can easily access them.

I don’t recommend allowing them to claim a potty for their own. Some toddlers get weird about possessions-- and we want to avoid as many potential struggles as we can.

I know that as a caregiver of twins you're constantly living within the bounds of Murphy’s law, but remember to keep your relaxed vibe, even if it seems as if one twin is nailing it and the other is not. If that’s the case, it’s totally acceptable to focus on the one who is really getting it and allow them to move ahead of the other in blocks.. If one does need rediapering, do without fanfare, oftentimes they will catch up quickly.

Short, sweet, and hopefully helpful. As always, if you find that you need more support or guidance, please feel free to reach out.
